‘Old Maire took me into her cottage and looked after me.’
The car screeched to a halt so abruptly that Charles nearly hit his head on the windscreen.
Charles told his story to an increasingly incredulous O’Reilly. When he had finished, the man said nothing, turned the car round and drove back the other way. Charles asked him a couple of times where they were going, but the proprietor remained silent and stony faced.

‘I don’t think so, it was definitely a man.

Robin made his way gingerly down the cliff path and arrived just above the big rock at the top of the run. There was another, smaller boulder about 20 yards below and he was quite right: at this height of water, you could see there was a small pot that might conceivably hold a fish, if there were any fish to hold.
