The founding fathers of our Golf Club at its Rothwell Haigh location were Mr Harry Howell Mr Frederick J Brown and Mr J Pratt. All three were businessmen of some substance and local standing. The three friends wished to play their golf at a location nearer to their places of work on the south side of the city. At that time South Leeds was the industrial heartland of the city and no such facility existed or had even been considered.

Goodwood Golf CourseOn the evening of July 15th, 1892 six Sussex gentlemen came together to propose that a golf club should be formed for Chichester and the surrounding area. Despite the meeting’s low turnout, by the end of the evening, the new club had acquired 22 members – including three vicars and two unattached ladies! The nine hole course was formed at Peckham’s Copse, North Mundham and the entrance fee and annual subscription came to one guinea apiece.

Spalding Golf Club

As one of Lincolnshire’s premier courses, Spalding Golf Club is a mature, 18 hole par 72 parkland course, measuring 6,482 yards and features undulating fairways with many raised tees and greens. Spalding is a members club and is run by an elected management board. There are 750 playing members and 75 junior members. As well as a thriving senior section the club also has over 50 social members.

The Vale Golf Club

The Vale was originally developed and officially opened by the Rimell Family in 1991, who were predominantly from a horse racing background. However, Mary’s father Sir William Lyons who was the founder of Jaguar cars in nearby Coventry and was a very keen golfer. Like the Jaguar Cars, The Vale Golf Club is committed to delivering excellent quality and service and this is reflected in the main Sir William Lyons Suite. The present owners bought the club in 1997 and have continued to invest time and money to ensure that The Vale remains one of the Midland’s premier golf venues.Here golfers and guests can experience fantastic golf, excellent conference and banqueting facilities and a relaxing atmosphere in which to relax and entertain. With fantastic views over the Malvern and Bredon Hills the course is situated in a natural amphitheatre which works through mature woodland while taking in all of the breath taking scenery. Whilst the club is known best for the 18 Hole International Course there is also a fantastic 9 hole course. Lying in the middle of the course is the Club house that offers not only wonderful food and drink, but also has impressive business and function facilities capable of staging anything from boardroom meetings to large banquets.

Sand Moor Golf Club

Situated 5 miles north of Leeds city centre, Sand Moor enjoys picturesque countryside with panoramic views overlooking Eccup Reservoir, the Harewood Estate, the Dales and, on a clear day, the White Horse of Hambleton Hills in North Yorkshire. This eighteen-hole, par 71, championship golf course was originally developed in 1921 and further enhanced by Dr Alister Mackenzie, a founding member of the Green Committee. Some of his trade mark greens are still in evidence.
