This was the scene when Dr Brett Wolf, a fly-fishing aficionado who used to run Blue Lake Lodge, took George and Helen Westropp on their first trip on Arthur’s Lake. ‘Right, so you haven’t fished down there today?’ ‘We haven’t fished there ever,’ said John patiently.
‘Okay, but just have one go. You won’t know if you don’t try.’
‘Look, you do it,’ said Mike. ‘We can’t be arsed.’
‘All right, you stay here and be moribund. I’ll climb down and do it. Someone’s got to show willing.’
