Rothbury Golf Club

We are pleased to announce the opening of our new clubhouse and 18-hole course. Access to the club is now from the south side of the River Coquet just past the new hospital on the Whitton Bank Road. The new clubhouse offers easy access, good parking, 7-day opening, a spacious bar and dining area, a function room for private parties, changing rooms with shower facilities, a decking area overlooking the course with wonderful views up the Coquet Valley, a junior room and disabled facilities. We will soon add buggies for hire.

Walton Heath Golf Club

The Club was founded in 1903 and the course was opened for play in May 1904. James Braid had already become the Club’s professional and was to remain in that capacity until his death in 1950. The course was laid out by W. Herbert Fowler, a leading amateur golfer. It was his first golf course venture and he went on to become one of the leading golf course architects of his era, both in the U.K. and America.It is a tribute to Fowler’s genius that he created one of the finest examples of heathland golf, which so closely resembles the traditional seaside links courses, out of a jungle of heather, gorse and bracken. It is a further testament to his creativity that the Old Course with a championship length of 7,351 yards is, still to this day, ranked as one of the top 100 courses in the world. The New Course was opened in 1907, and is comfortably ranked in the Top 100 courses in the British Isles – a superb test of golf that plays to a championship length of 7,165 yards.

Opened in 1990 Sapey Golf Club has matured into one of the outstanding courses in the area. Set high in the rolling hills of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire border wild life abounds, finding refuge in the surrounding woods, cornfields and pastures, all observed on high by our adopted family of buzzards. If this is still not challenging enough then the 10,000 trees and shrubs will provide the sternest test. These were carefully selected as a combination of fast growing conifers and the more glamorous broad leaf variety. Now the stakes and free drops have become history, Sapey is becoming one of the most demanding, as well as beautiful, venues in the area.

We are fortunate indeed that the vision of W G Tarrant in 1912, brought him to engage the legendry Harry S Colt to design and build a golf course of such enduring quality. It is recorded that Colt himself considered St George’s Hill to be his “ Jewel in the Crown “ and for all of us it is a gem, not only to be cherished and revered but most of all to be enjoyed. It is a challenging test of golf in the most beautiful landscape.
